Participation in the Black Spur Ultra

Participating in an adventure race, trail running race, or race training clinic is a potentially hazardous activity.  Registrants agree to participate only if they are physically able, are willing and able to carry the mandatory gear and agree to abide by all rules of the event.  Registrants will seek a physician’s advice and approval if they have any doubt as to their physical ability. The race directors of Sinister Sports Inc. have the right to refuse the participation of any registrant if they feel there is a concern for that person’s health and safety. The registrant assumes all risks associated with this event, which may include, but are not limited to, dehydration, hypothermia, falls, poor conditions on the racecourse, poor weather, animal confrontation, contact with other registrants and traffic. Registrants must complete and sign a waiver prior to commencing the event. Minors are only allowed to participate in the event if they present a waiver that is signed by a parent or guardian. These regulations are for the participant's safety and the safety of the other participants in the race. Sinister Sports Inc. reserves the right to disqualify and remove anyone from the event if they in any way contravene the rules, engage in unsportsmanlike behavior or endanger themselves or other participants. If you are not a Canadian citizen or you are not covered by Canadian public healthcare, you may be asked to provide proof of sufficient insurance coverage prior to starting the race.

Use of Images

Sinister Sports Inc. has the right to use any photographs or video recording taken of participants and spectators during the course of the event without remuneration to the individual. This may include reproduction in both print and electronic media.

Prizes and Gifts

Any prizes or items for racer gift bags are sponsored and may change without notice due to availability. Sinister Sports Inc. reserves the right to cancel any sponsored gifts or prizes without notice should the items become unavailable.


You are not considered registered until full payment is received. The registrant agrees to pay the full amount quoted when registering. If payment is not received at this time, the registration may be cancelled. The registrant is responsible for the cost of any non-sufficient-fund cheques.

Registration Numbers

Sinister Sports Inc. holds the right to change the registration limit for the race without notice.

Refunds & Withdrawal Policy

If you need to withdrawal from the race, we are able to provide a refund on the following schedule:

Transfers to future events will be allowed based on the schedule above.

Refunds will be transferred back to the original credit card that paid for the entry. If this is not possible, it will sent via e-transfer to the original payer, or anyone they authorize to receive the refund.

Registration Changes

Teams are allowed to change team members up until 14 days before the race, although we cannot guarantee T-shirt availability if changes are made in the last 60 days. Refunds for the removal of team members will be given based on the Refund & Withdrawal Policy above (per person).

Solos and Teams may update any other information on your registration by using the edit links on the website, although changes to T-shirt sizes will be allowed only up until 60 days prior. Registration changes are not possible in the last 14 days prior to the race.

Race Cancellation Policy

If the race is cancelled due due to act of nature, area closure, or any other circumstance outside of our control, we are able to give a 50% refund up until 60 days before the race. No refunds or extensions of race credit will be given in the the last 60 days prior to the race.
